I have been so busy with lots of different stuff happening at the homestead that I haven't had much time to post. Well, we have had a fox killing some of our orpington chickens. We even had some of the goats getting out a hole in the fence. Somehow or the other, they had made that hole. It was a good thing that our neighbor noticed and got the goats back onto the property otherwise they may have been on the main road or the railroad tracks.
Apart from that, hubby has been busy working on the second old barn. I hadn't done much visiting there to take out the latest updates but this past week, we had new birth on the farm. It is every exciting to see new babies and when you have cuties being added to the farm, it makes the place even livelier. This past Friday (20th May), we had twin goats. Two beautiful white kids. Their mother Mabel, is a white Saanan goat. She is very calm and would come up to you just to be petted. If you ignore her, she would nudge her head and look at you with those hazel looking eyes. I visited the farm on Sunday and videoed the babies. Mama Mabel's udder were very huge and almost touching the ground. There was so much milk in her that though the kids drank a lot, she still had to be milked. We did get a bit and I took the bucket of milk home and strained and boiled it before putting it in the fridge after cooling. That night, I took out the milk and boiled it again to make goat cheese. It was the first time I ever did that. I added spices to it and made two batches. One was garlic goat cheese and the other was cinnamon ginger. I only used a little from it for my salad.
